Obituary Made Easy helps families write an obituary and create a memorial design. The details you share are personal, and we treat them with care. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, where it is stored, and the choices you have. It covers obituarymadeeasy.com and the app at app.obituarymadeeasy.com.
What we collect
- Details about your loved one. The answers you type, such as names, dates, places, family members, memories, service details, and verses, along with the obituary draft and the design you choose.
- Photos you upload. Used to build your design preview and your final file.
- Your email address. Only if you sign in to save your work, or join our early access list.
- Purchase information. Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation that a payment was completed. We never see or store your full card number.
- Basic technical information. Like most websites, our hosting providers keep standard logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) to keep the service running and secure.
How we use it
- To write your obituary draft from your answers and let you edit it.
- To build previews and print-ready files of the design you choose.
- To save your work and let you continue later when you sign in.
- To send the sign-in links you ask for, and early access updates if you joined that list.
- To process your purchase and help if something goes wrong with it.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How your drafts are stored
If you don't sign in
Your answers and draft stay in your browser. To write the draft, your answers are sent to our server, which passes them to our writing provider and returns the draft to you. We do not keep a copy on our server afterward. Photos you upload for a preview are used to build that preview and are then deleted from our server. Before you go to checkout, the app keeps a copy of your work in your browser so it is still there when you return.
If you sign in
Your memorial (your answers, draft, and design choices) is saved to your account so you can come back to it. Photos are kept in private storage that only your account can open. You can delete a memorial from "My memorials" at any time, which also deletes its photo. To delete your account entirely, email hello@obituarymadeeasy.com.
Payments
The $49 Tribute is a one-time payment processed by Stripe on Stripe's secure checkout page. Stripe collects your payment details and handles them under its own privacy policy. If you enter your loved one's name before checkout, it may appear in the purchase description on your receipt. Discount codes, such as EARLYACCESS50, are entered on the Stripe checkout page.
Cookies and browser storage
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. The app uses your browser's storage to keep you signed in, remember the design you picked, keep your work safe while you visit checkout, and remember that your Tribute purchase was completed. Stripe uses cookies on its checkout page to process payments and prevent fraud. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the fonts load.
Who helps us run the service
We share information only with the companies that help us run Obituary Made Easy, and only as needed for them to do that work:
- Anthropic, which provides the writing technology that turns your answers into a draft
- Supabase, for sign-in, saved memorials, and private photo storage
- Stripe, for payments
- Resend, to deliver sign-in emails
- Render and Netlify, which host the app and this website
- Formspree, which receives early access sign-ups
- Google Fonts, which serves the fonts on our pages
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the service.
Sharing your memorial
Your memorial is private by default. We do not publish it or share it publicly. What you download, print, or send to others is up to you.
How long we keep it
- Saved memorials stay in your account until you delete them or ask us to delete your account.
- Early access emails stay on our list until you ask to be removed.
- Payment records are kept by Stripe, and by us as needed for accounting and tax purposes.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to be removed from our early access list. Email hello@obituarymadeeasy.com and we will help.
Security
We use encrypted connections and private storage, and we limit access to what is needed to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your family's information.
Children
Obituary Made Easy is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update it on this page and change the date at the top.
